The Must-have skirt for fall

The One. It’s a swoon-worthy concept that has extended from the world of romance to the world of fashion. This season’s one true love seems to be one silhouette for fall: the snap-front skirt. Yes, take-me-off style of the early seventies is back in a big way. You’ll find it on the streets, where women can’t get enough of vintage suede options; on the runways, where J.W.Anderson and Rag & Bone provide two very different takes on the look; and in stores on every corner.

The easy reason for the shape’s resurgence is its association with the seventies, the decade dominating designers for two seasons now. The snap-front skirt was not only a style choice for women of the era, but a statement-making one, too. With a high-rise and flared shape it’s near-universally flattering and can be worn through a smattering of seasons with the addition of a pair of thick tights.

The Louis Vuitton designer’s snap-front, striped minis for Spring 2015 quickly became the street style item du jour. The rest of fashion followed suit, with retailers churning out their own takes on the mod silhouette. Then came Miss Chung, who not only chose to sport her fair share of snapped-up minis and post the looks on her Instagram, but also designed her own black suede iteration as part of her collaboration with AG Jeans. Wearing the style with a metallic turtleneck and retro booties, Chung perches on the back of a classic car in the line’s lookbook, the very picture of a certain sort of seventies freedom.

Nowadays, the silhouette is as likely to be seen on an up-and-coming actress as it is on the Bushwick babe on the barstool beside yours. Another place you’ll definitely see it? On the streets outside the shows during the fast-approaching fashion month. Familiarize yourself with the candidates you’ll spot the most outside the shows in the pictures bellow.

Love and have a fashionable fun weekend, xx Maja
